Texas Township Real Estate

The Charter Township of Texas is located in the southwest portion of Kalamazoo County encompassing 36 square miles. There are over 10,000 people who reside within the township. The school systems are Mattawan, Portage, Schoolcraft and Kalamazoo Valley Community College is also located within the township. Texas Township was formed from Brady in 1838, and derives its name, doubtless, from the Lone Star State, which even then began to appear as an important factor in the history of the American Republic.

Numerous parks can be found in this lush area, including large playgrounds and the Al Sabo Land Preserve – originally established to protect the groundwater supply of the Atwater wellfield in the 1970’s, now open to the public with 7 miles of bike trails and 25 miles of walking trails.

The lake surface of Texas covers approximately 1200 acres.  Eagle, Crooked, Pretty, Pine, Paw Paw, Bass, and Duck are some of the more popular lakes.

The land is diversified by broad plains and a low range of hills, which extend from north to south through the central part of the west half, with the eastern half being comparatively level.

Residents take advantage of Texas Township’s farmer’s market which features over 60 vendors from farms, gardens and food businesses in Southwest Michigan selling their locally-grown and produced goods, from fresh fruits and veggies to meats, eggs and cheese to baked goods to annuals, perennials and fresh-cut flowers and more.
